In accordance with the overall work arrangement for the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, the SFL held its fourth Academic Workshop for teachers on November 3, 2023, in the school's conference room. Ms. Deng Bilin, Deputy Director of the Education Publishing Center at China Publishing Group World Publishing Corporation Xi'an Company, along with Ms. Zhao Zhiyi and Mr. Wang Yijie, editors from the same company, and our school's Vice Dean of Research, Su Rui, along with teachers from various departments with publication plans, totaling 16 individuals, attended this edition of the Academic Workshop. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Su Rui.
Focusing on the theme "Proposal Submission and Funding for Monographs/Translations/Textbooks," teachers from our school engaged in cooperative exchanges and discussions with the China Publishing Group- World Publishing Corporation- Foreign Language Discipline Publishing Team. Specific topics included: annual topics of World Publishing Corporation; collaboration plans for full/partial/self-funded publishing assistance under horizontal projects; collaboration proposal plans for the National Social Science Foundation Chinese Academic Translation Project and the National Social Science Foundation Late-Stage Funding Project.
Vice Dean Su Rui introduced the publication situation and challenges faced by our school. The total publication volume of academic monographs, course textbooks, and translated works in our school is relatively low, with monographs having the smallest proportion and translated works having the largest. Apart from translation publishing projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation's Chinese Academic Translation Project, there are no translation publishing projects in various levels of projects. Teachers encounter many difficulties in the publication process, including difficulty in contacting publishers, acquiring topics, and obtaining funding.
Ms. Deng Bilin introduced the basic information of World Publishing Corporation, annual topic plans, and departmental publishing directions. She, along with Ms. Zhao Zhiyi and Mr. Wang Yijie from World Publishing Corporation, patiently addressed the questions raised by teachers regarding publication-related issues.
Vice Dean Su Rui pointed out that the publication of academic achievements is the lifeline of researchers, and the publication of works is the main carrier for the dissemination of researchers' ideas and one of the main reference indicators for promotion. The organization of teachers and publishers for sharing and communication aims to provide teachers with answers from the perspective of publishers, allowing teachers to understand the operation and funding methods of the publishing industry, and to explore the path for deep cooperation between the two parties in translation projects and monograph publishing.
