On the afternoon of November 30, 2023, Professor Wang Jianhua, Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at Renmin University of China / Huaqiao University, Vice President of Huaqiao University and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Renmin University of China, Vice Chairman of the Cognitive Translation Professional Committee of the Chinese Comparative Study of English and Chinese Society, and Vice Chairman of the Cognitive and Intelligent Development Professional Committee of the Chinese Language Modernization Society, delivered a guest lecture at the School of Foreign Languages at Northwest University as part of the “Expert Lecture”. The lecture, titled Cognitive Translation Research and Cultural Communication, was moderated by Professor Cheng Tian'e from our school. Nearly 80 faculty and students attended the lecture.

Professor Wang Jianhua pointed out that the improvement of China's international communication capabilities depends on the enhancement of cultural translation capabilities, and the development of cultural translation capabilities relies on the development of cognitive translation. Professor Wang Jianhua conducted research on the role of cognitive translation in cultural translation, thus constructing a cognitive translation theory for cultural translation and examining cultural translation from a new theoretical perspective. This, in turn, promotes the development of cultural translation and provides theoretical support for cognitive translation studies in promoting Chinese culture internationally. Through the construction of cognitive translation theory for cultural translation, China's international communication capabilities in cultural dissemination can be effectively enhanced, enabled the telling of Chinese stories and the dissemination of Chinese voices, contributed to the construction of China's international discourse system, and ultimately enhanced China's cultural soft power through cognitive translation research.

During the online session, Professor Wang Jianhua engaged in discussions and exchanges with faculty and students on topics related to cognitive translation research and cultural communication. The lecture enhanced the understanding of cognitive translation research among faculty and students and broadened their perspectives on cultural communication research.
