Practices in International and Regional Studies

of Zhejiang Normal University in the New Era

Xu Wei is a researcher, doctoral supervisor and associate dean at the Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University. She is recognized as an outstanding young and middle-aged expert in ethnic studies by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and is one of the first batch of high-level and outstanding talents in the Leading Talent Cultivation Plan of Universities in Zhejiang Province. Xu also serves as a committee member of the Jinhua Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League, Vice President of the Chinese Research Society of African Affairs, managing director of the Chinese Society of African Historical Studies, and council member of both the China World Ethnic Studies Association and the China Asian-African Studies Association. Her research focuses on African anthropology, international and regional studies, the sociology of race and ethnicity, international migration, and transnational enterprises, particularly in Southern and Eastern Africa. In recent years, she has published over 20 academic papers and authored three monographs. She is also the chief editor of three volumes of the “Annual Report on China-South Africa People-to-people Exchange” and has led multiple research projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education, and other organizations. In 2012, Xu received a full scholarship from the China Scholarship Council to study at the University of Botswana for a year. She has conducted research visits to several countries including South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria. Her monograph, Social Changes of Racial and Ethnic Relations in South Africa, received the Third Prize of the 9th Excellent Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences awarded by the Ministry of Education (International and Regional Studies).
